
Peter King MA, MSc. is the Senior Instructor of the 'U.K. Taiho-jutsu - Defensive Tactics & Restraint'.
He began learning police defense and restraint methods 50 years ago and has taught extensively in the U.K. and internationally for many years.
He previously taught Public Order (riot training) and Arrest & Restraint training in the Metropolitan Police.. In 1981 he trained with the Japanese Kidotai (riot police) at their special Yoshinkan Hombu Aikido classes and also with Kidotai Cheif Instructor Kaminoda Sensei.
In 1992, as a committee member looking into revising the Metropolitan Police Self Defence & Restraint training , he attended the Japanese National Police Academy in Tokyo, where he was fully familiarised with Japanese Taiho-jutsu system and provided with all of the training material related to it by the National Police Agency's Chief Instructor - Inspector Tateishi Terumi..
His broad knowlege and experience in police defense and restraint training includes instructor qualifications in; Japanese, U.K., U.S. and European police defense and restraint systems, including non-lethal police weaponary / equipment.
He holds high level martial arts grades, and has trainied extensively in Japan. In 1985, he was honoured to demonstarte Jujutsu techniques for the now Japanes Emperor at a cultural festival in the U.K.
He is a Fellow of the British Association for Physical Training (FBAPT) and holds a Master's degree in Sports Science. He has taught on higher education (BSc. & MSc) programmes in the U.K. & Italy. He has also lectured on the ‘Violence management in the past and present - a comparative examination of Edo period and contemporary policing' at the American Romanian University in Bucharest, Romania.
He has 30 years experience of teaching and applying defense and restraint / officer safety training within the law enforcement environment. As evidence of that, 1992 he recieved a Metropolitan Police bravery award for disarming a 'dangerous criminal armed with a machete'.
In 2022 he was honoured to be inducted into the United States Jujitsu Federation's 'Hall of Fame' at a ceremony in New Jersey, USA.
In relation to the medical implications of police techniques, he is also a U.K. State Registered Physiotherapist (HCPC), Registered Osteopath (GOsC) and Member (Fellow) of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM).
He is the National Director for the United States Tai-jutsu (USTJ) and International Taiho-jutsu (ITJ) programes and the U.K. Director of Operations for the Police Tactics Instructors of America (PTIOA).
In 2024, he was awarded 10th Dan black belt rank and Hanshi (senior master) title in Taiho-jutsu by the 'All Japan Martial Arts Federation' (ZNSBR) and serves as their U.K. Taiho-jutsu representative.
In addition he is also registered as 10th Dan, Instructor in Taiho-jutsu, Physical Intervention and Self-Protection by the U.K. regulatory body - the Martial Arts & Boxing Association (BMABA).
