A translation from from the Japanese Military Police Taiho-jutsu manual. The military (Self-defence Force) system closely follows the civilian police system.

In my opinion, as time went on the the police striking became more Karate -like, the throwing more Jūdō-like and the Keibō (baton) more Kendō-like, than the original 1940s/50s system. Although containing similar elements, the original post-war system seemed to have more cohesive movement and the later systems to have movement divided by the influnces of the component parts. Possibly the earlier system drew on older martial arts influences, whereas the newer systems drew sports based influences. The relative safety of modern Japan may have also been a factor in this.
