Article 3 When using arrest techniques, police officers must pay attention to the following items.
(1.) Limit the blows they inflict on the other party to the minimum necessary for subduing and arresting them.
(2.) Instantly identify the other party's attitude, the presence or absence of a weapon, the number of people, etc., and consider the terrain, features, and other circumstances, and use these to your advantage .
(3.) Always be aware of the distance between you and the other party, and do not approach the other party carelessly

(4.) Always stay ahead of the other party, and do not hesitate or hesitate to miss an opportunity to subdue and arrest them.
(5.) Avoid needlessly grappling if the other party is holding a weapon, first try to knock the weapon down.
(6.) If there are multiple suspects, always position yourself so that you can always see them in your field of vision, and begin by subduing and arresting the most important ones.

次に、逮捕術教範の訓令第3条に実施の心得が規定されていますが、これはまさに護身法に役立つものなので、紹介します。
（実施の心得）
第3条 警察官は、逮捕術を用いるとき、次の各号に掲げる事項に留意しなければならない。
（１） 相手に与える打撃は、制圧逮捕に必要な最小限度にとどめるようにすること。
（２） とっさに、相手の態度、凶器の有無、人数等を識別するとともに、地形、地物その他の状況を考え、臨機応変にこれらを自己に有利に役 立たせるようにすること。
（３） 常に相手との間合いに注意し、不用意に相手に接近することのない ようにすること。
（４） 常に相手の先を占め、ちゅうちょ、しゅん巡して制圧逮捕の機会を 逸することのないようにすること。
（５） 凶器を所持していると認められる相手に対しては、いたずらに組み 付くことを避け、凶器を手にしている相手に対しては、まず凶器を打 ち落とすようにすること。
（６） 相手が複数の場合は、常に自己の視野に入れるように位置し、おも だった者から制圧逮捕するようにすること。
